Blue and Mellow Yellow
Blue is still going strong this season and a pop of yellow is a must have, so today’s mood board looks at how to combine these colours in your home. With connotations of bright sunshine on blue skies, this colour scheme is sure to create a space to chill and unwind. Its also a read was to zest up your home with pops of sunshine to brighten your day.
We’d been desperate to design a snug area as Anna is planning one for her new extension and this is exactly what she has in mind! Centred around a nordic fireplace (ideally a vintage model but there are some replicas available online) this is a space to relax and unwind. We’ve gone for bare painted floorboards for a clean look paired with lots of textures for warmth. The Frome Leather armchair is from the Croft collection at John Lewis, which I love for its nordic vibes but modern practical style. Priced at £799. The Greyson side table is also from John Lewis, priced at £150.
We had to include a leather bean bag – perfect for lazy evenings on chilled Sundays enjoying the summer sun or snuggling up next to the fire in winter. This one is Bristol Antique Tan Bean Chair from Dunelm, priced at £69.
On the wall we’ve featured one of Habitat’s brilliant posters. They’re a great place to pick up bold, vibrant and well-priced artwork. They also have frames to fit in lots of styles. This poster is the Battersea Print sized 50x50cm by Jason Lillley priced at £40.

For the dining space we reduced the colours to create a simpler, harmonious palette. We love string shelving and had to include it in this mood board. Reminiscent of the Ladderax storage of the 60s and 70s, string shelving is beautiful and practical. It’s not the cheapest, but worth the investment. This one is from John Lewis, priced at £1,570 for the complete unit.
The floor features one of Habitat’s new rugs called ‘Figures‘. We love the colours and Habitat can always be relied upon for high-quality textiles. Sitting on top is a great dining set also from Habitat called Lance. It’s a great price at £515 for everything and has a lovely scandi style that is really practical for families and also smaller space homes.

Finally, in the lounge we’ve upped the contrast to make the yellow really pop. Dark blue walls create a cosy environment and feels modern and fresh too. We’ve used Habitat’s Teo yellow velvet sofa to add the pop of yellow and also the welcoming texture of velvet.
One the floor we have one of Sunday and Story’s amazing berber rugs. This one is priced at £800. We’ve also included a sideboard from John Lewis for storage.
We’ve created a gallery wall for interest. You can mix and match your styles and colours to create something really personal to you and your family. Simple lighting to highlight key areas of the room; we’ve used the Boyd light fitting from Habitat.
Finally, a good study coffee table for magazines, cups and plates on lazy evenings.
