Tranquil Dawnâ„¢

Where did that year go? It’s colour of the year time again and Dulux to today announced its 2020 colour as Tranquil Dawn – a calm and soothing green. Launched this morning, it’s not a surprise to us that they’ve gone for a colour that creates calm and tranquillity – we sure need it with everything going on in the World at the moment!

So what do you think? We like it. Greens and green-blues have become very popular in the last year and site really well with the scandi trends we’ve all been embracing. Perfect with woods and whites, Tranquil Dawn creates a soothing tone that is very easy to live with. Enough colour to make an impression, but enough to live with if you’re not one for bold colours at home. I’m not sure anyone would say they don’t like it. But could you love it? We think you could.

Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director, Dulux UK, explains: “A new decade heralds a new dawn and the hazy pale green tones of Tranquil Dawn™ are calming and comforting just when we need it most in our lives. When paired with neutral pastels and rich jewels it becomes incredibly powerful at creating spaces that encourage making better human connections.

Green in a metaphorical sense is increasingly important to everyone. Being ‘green’ is on everyone’s minds as we strive to save our planet and protect nature and wildlife from our destructive ways. I feel like 2020 is a good year to be green.

Dulux says: “Fuelled by a greater understanding of the impact society is making on the planet, the panel identified the universal theme for 2020 as a desire to create more opportunities to experience ‘A Human Touch’ in our lives and in our homes.”

The Dulux Colour of the Year 2020 was selected by an expert panel of colour designers, trend forecasters, design specialists, architects and editors from around the world.

Now in its 17th year, the panel – which included former Editor in Chief of Elle Decoration UK, Michelle Ogundehin, and was chaired by Heleen van Gent from AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Centre.
