So for those of you who are new to our blog, in 2014 we bought out 1960s brick box in the perfect location for us. We did exactly what the estate agents tell you – worst house on a nice street and we couldn’t be happier, but injecting some personality into our magnolia box has taken some time! Working around the small children we’ve achieve a few of the ‘big jobs’ which included the serious stuff like heating and electrics, but also the more interesting stuff like getting rid of the artex ceilings, changing the nasty white laminate in the kitchen, installing down lights etc. Now is my chance to get the kitchen diner looking how I want it (aside from a completely new kitchen!!) so I’ve been working on a plan.

I have a dark walled lounge so I was keen to keep the dining room light and airy for some contrast. Of course, I have some inspiration that I’ve been admiring too….

This stunning house belongs to Laura Butler-Maddern who owns the blog The Maker Place. I absolutely love her kitchen and it has totally inspired me to bring some marble into my home. I love the gold/brass cupboard pulls too, so they’re on the list too!

Ignoring the walls, I love this kitchen colour. It’s Railings from Farrow & Ball which I’ve already purchased in estate eggshell ready to get painting.

I’m also on a mission to find a capiz chandelier.. I know they’re old fashioned (my mum has already mentioned that she had one when I was little) but I love them. Worst case, I’ll settle for a capiz wind chime and some alternative lighting.

The plan

My aim is to have a dining room that is just that; a dining room. I have a tendency to try and make the room a second lounge areas as well as an office space. But its not, its a dining room and that’s all I need it to be. So I’m culling the furniture and keeping it simple.

Mood board

Here’s what I’m getting/searching for:

Table – Saarinen Oval Tulip Table with marble top (hopefully have one coming, found on Gumtree).
Chairs – Prague bistro chair (or similar) likely from eBay.
Capiz Chandelier – Fun 10DM from Nordic Trends.
Artwork – by Kimmy Hogan, via Greenhouse Interiors.
Clock – from Dwell.

Watch this space for project updates!
