Japandi Interiors Trend
Japandi or Japanordic started making headways into all our hearts in 2018, a perfect balance of Japanese and Scandinavian. The fusion of these two styles couldn’t be more suited. Wabi-Sabi and Hygge, finding beauty within the imperfect with an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. Perfect combination. Why do they work so well together? For us, the core element for both centres on simplicity; both styles revolve around the minimalist approach of clean and uncluttered interiors. The lifestyle approach of ‘less is more’ is totally apparent within this fusion, elements from nature, green foliage instead of plants, wood, the mix of dark and light and functional accessories.
Japandi is more of a lifestyle rather than a trend; the key is to embrace simplicity, east meets west, raw textures and muted colour palettes.
Key pieces to achieve this style of living are low slung furniture, dark and light wood, origami shades and screens.
It doesn’t have to be white either. Japandi works well with dark colours too.
In a bedroom, Japandi makes a peaceful and relaxing space. Gentle tones and natural textures are all at home with this style.
Get the Japandi look
In the living area, the Japandi look can be achieved with some well-chosen key pieces. We love the Rattan Lounge Chair from French Connection. The low lounge chair is crafted from cane and mango wood, creating a natural palette which brings a versatility to the piece.
With its root in Nordic styles, Ikea is a great place to find Japandi style items. Their lönholt rug is a perfect affordable choice.
In terms of a sofa, its all about the fabric! The Scott sofa from Habitat is available in a fabric called ‘basket weave’ which is just right for the Japandi look. The simple wooden legs are right on style too.
