A wonderful day at Decorex
On Sunday we attended the opening day of Decorex 2019 at its new venue, London Olympia. Olympia is a beautiful, light and bright venue that we often visit for other events, and it was perfect for Decorex from a point of view. We try to attend Decorex every year to meet up with industry friends and also to find new inspiration and ideas. This year we were not disappointed!
A real highlight of the show for us was the William Morris and Co stand where we were invited to print our own wallpaper tile using one of their beautiful vintage stencils and print press. The experience was fantastic and we’re both now in the process of framing the beautiful prints so we can display them at home. Using the original process, you apply paint to a sponge pad and then press the stencil onto the pad to make the paint.
You then use the winch to move the heavy stencil over to the printing desk where it is lowered onto the paper and a foot press is used to apply sufficient pressure to ensure a good transfer.
It was fantastic! If you get a chance to do it, definitely do!
We paid visits to as many of our friends as we could. We were delighted to catch up with Maxine from Blackpop and see their new collection that takes inspiration from Paradise Lost. The detailing on their printed fabric is amazing! My eyes completely believed it was stitching until I touched it. We love the slight oriental feel from the new design, which is now also available as a wall mural and voiles.
Curiousa & Curiousa aways deliver a really eye-catching stand! Their stunning light collection looked beautiful again the pink backdrop. Their lantern collection really attracted a crowd.. and Sally of course.
Among the exhibits were some really talented craftspeople exhibiting their recent work. We love a good chair and this one was both beautiful and comfortable.
We popped along to see Bert & May’s stand, which featured not only their stunning tiles but also their new paint collection. The new paints colour-match or compliment their tile range – what a fab idea!
The floor of the stand featured some of their reclaimed tiles. We loved these so much! They source them mostly from Spain and they are available to buy, alongside their new tiles, on their website.
One of their best selling tile collections had been used to create a bathroom scene. We loved the effect of all over tiles in this beautiful pattern. The vintage mirrors were the perfect finishing touch.
We love how each stand is so different at Decorex and how exhibitors go the extra mile to catch your attention. Look at these beautiful cranes!
We had to visit the door handle by Phillip Watts Design that nearly broke Instagram last week. It’s even better in real life!
The bar areas were beautifully decorated! London based interior stylist and set designer Paula May Evans put these together for the event. We loved the greenery and varied seating.
We really loved the VIP room which we were kindly given access to by our friends at Farrow & Ball. Led by UK interior design practice Harding & Read the room champions sustainable practices in interior design.
Furnishings were provided by Vinterior, the vintage and antique ecommerce platform, while several pieces will be sustainably made by Matthew Cox and others provided by antiques dealer turned maker, Christopher Howe.
British Standard, whose joinery is built to last a lifetime and made from local and environmentally responsible family-managed woodlands, provided the kitchen and tiles will be reworked from rejects supplied by Douglas Watson. Environmentally friendly paint from Farrow & Ball was used throughout – to dramatic effect!
Back to the stands and Sally got hands-on at the Love Your Home display. We loved their beautiful ‘teddy bear’ chair and their beautiful range of beds are sofas are well worth a look if you’re in the market!
We had a fantastic day and we’re looking forward to next year already!
