Scandinavian design has changed how we style our homes in the last few years. The gorgeous simplicity, curved edges, muted colours and natural fibres have been welcomed into our lives, which in turn has boosted interest in those similar feel 1960 pieces in our grandparents’ lofts and garages and have becoming desirable finds at car boots and clearance sales.
All the high street stores now stock ‘Scandi’ ranges and are answering our call for affordable but quality items that put a smile on our faces.
Getting ready for Scandi
Declutter, declutter, declutter. The Scandinavian design is all about minimalism and everything having its place. Starting from a blank canvas will really help too.
Colour schemes
Every Scandi room has a good neutral base with accents of colour to make key features pop out at you. Black and white and greyscale prints work well with a bright single colour image thrown in to liven things up.
In terms of colour, yellows, greens, blue – basically natural colours, work really well. Pair them back with the base neutral palette and luxurious textures to balance it all out.

The pebble nest of tables
Iconic Scandi design, originally made by Ercol and still available today through various retailers (check out our ‘where to buy pebble tables’ post ). Ercol are still making them but they are  also sold in a range of styles to suit your decor.
The sheep skin rug/throw
Now cheaper than ever through big high street retailers including Ikea from as little at £10 and Dunelm mill from £20 in various shapes, sizes and colours.

A plant in a basket
Simple to do and gives a great effect – my house is full of them!
I would recommend TK Maxx or Homesense for a wide range. I like a good seagrass basket myself, like this one from NotOnTheHighStreet.com which has a distinct shape people are calling the ‘belly basket’ – check out the link, you’ll see why!
Some geometric stuff!
B&Q have some really good value geometric rugs, available in a range of shapes and sizes. This one for example is a great size and only £60.
Wayfair is also a good bet… but be sure to send back if the quality isn’t what you’re expecting! We’ve found it to be a little hit or miss…
