My pick of the perfect sideboards
Oh I do love a sideboard. It’s a learned appreciation; growing up it was the massive thing in the room that took up all the space and had clutter on top. Ok it was the 80s, but I didn’t get it. What could possibly justify the space it consumed? How wrong could I be!
The sideboard is an iconic British ideal of practical storage and function. Cutlery drawer for you best silverware, drop down door to the drinks cabinet section complete with glass holders and plentiful storage for all your bits and bobs as well as space on top to lean a picture, pop a plant or arrange your favourite nic nacs.
In the last few years the mid century style has made a big come back and we’ve all been scouring the charity shops and eyeing up great aunt Doris’ G Plan dining sets. I’ve loved the ones I’ve owned but now I feel it is time to move on.
I’ve been on the hunt for a new sideboard for my lounge for a little while now. For me it’s a centre piece in my slight over-sized lounge to give a focal point at the far end. As a mum, I definitely need the storage! Perhaps not for my collection of gin (shame) but more for the kid’s stuff and toys because this is a home after all!
This is my shortlist of my very favourite sideboards available to buy right now. Some premium, some affordable and some in the middle.
John Lewis Yoko sideboard
This is one sexy sideboard! Its got curves, its got a bit of glam and its beautifully made. It has a nob to my mid-century roots but a modern edge that suits my new style… go get yourself one!

The Nine Schools Qing Sideboard
One of my absolute favourites, the Qing sideboard has an oriental feel and a classic, solid shape. The gold furniture is delicate and the oyster grey colour works really well with blush and new neutrals.

La Redoute Waska Cabinet
So it’s not quite a full sideboard but I couldn’t resist it! I have a thing for woven at the moment and this gorgeous cabinet has real class!

Max from Habitat
Max is less formal and more texture. I love the slatted doors that you can either dress up or pair down. Lots of storage and nice and low to give you lots of wall space above.
