Blue is the colour
Blue has always been one of the UK’s favourite colours. Its one of the most popular colours across genders, ages and backgrounds yet in recent years it’s not been as popular in our homes. That’s now set to change. Blue is most definitely back and we’re painting out walls in deep and luxurious blues through to brilliant bright blues.
As dark walls start to lessen in popularity, blue is still going strong in every room of our homes. Farrow and Ball’s Hague Blue, Stiffkey Blue and Inchyra are hugely popular Instagram hashtags with over one million searches a day for inspiration in these colours.
We love this stunning moody hallway. This aged blue-grey is inspired by the naturally dramatic Scottish skies that act as a backdrop for the classic Georgian Inchyra House. Stunning. And look at what can be achieved with the same colour but different finish. Full gloss at the bottom and Estate Emulsion on top.
These beautiful bold blue walls are from Orminston House in Belfast, Ireland’s House of the Year 2019.
In my own home, I’ve decorated my bedroom in Stiffkey Blue with Sandberg’s beautiful Ava wallpaper. The colour match is pretty much perfect and I love the boyish blue with the feminine floral paper.
Last year we completed a bedroom makeover in Inchyra Blue with Calamine on the ceiling. We were so pleased with the result.
Blue bathrooms have always been popular and we love these blue panelled walls. Blue seems to make whites seem even whiter!
It’s not just about painted walls either. There are so many beautiful blue wallpapers and this is one of our favourites, called ‘Orchids’ by Cole & Son.
Blue works fabulously well with golds. The stunning West Elm ceiling light glows on this blue background.
Blue-blacks can have a fantastic effect. We love F&B’s railings on this kitchen by Eye Swoon.
